DUSTY SLIPS QUIETLY AWAY, MARCH 2, 1999

It is with great sadness that this site announces the death of Dusty Springfield.

Dusty passed away Tuesday evening, March 2, 1999, after a long struggle with cancer. She will be missed immensely by all whose lives have been graced by her presence and by her voice.

Over the course of the next week I will undertake the sad task of editing the narrative texts throughout the Woman of Repute site so as to acknowledge Dusty's death. At the same time I invite visitors to share their thoughts and memories of Dusty in the guestbook. I'm aware that the guestbook can only hold 250 messages at any given time. Accordingly, I've been periodically printing out the many messages being left and will use them in the creating of a special commemorative site in the near future. You may also e-mail your message to hangingrock@hotmail.com

I also encourage people to sign the guestbook on Grant Whittingham's excellent A Girl Called Dusty website and to visit Dusty's close friend Simon Bell's beautiful memorial page.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank all of those close to Dusty, including Simon, for being for her a constant source of support, love and strength in these last years. May you know peace and strength as you come to terms with the loss of this very special woman.

Strange face with your eyes
so pale and sincere.
Underneath you know well
you have nothing to fear.
For the dreams that came to you
when so young
told of a life
where spring is sprung.

You would seem so frail
in the cold of the night
when the armies of emotion
go out to fight
But while the earth sinks to its grave
you sail to the sky
on the crest of a wave.

So forget this cruel world
where I belong.
I'll just sit and wait
and sing my song.
And if one day you should see me in the crowd
lend a hand and lift me
to your place in the cloud.

Cello Song
