The End of an Era

The USS Lockwood FF-1064 was the first of three Knox Class Frigates (USS Capodanno FF-1093, USS Marvin Shields FF-1066) I served on during my 14 year Naval Career (Sept 1981 to Sept 1984).
Unlike the Marvy Do and the Cappy  that ended up in foreign service, the Lockwood met her end by scrapping.  According to the Naval Vessel Register, she was officially disposed of by recycling on 08/04/2000.

View showing the Sonar Dome and the length of the ship.  The 5" 54 cal Gun Mount, ASROC (Anti Submarine Rocket) launcher, the Mack, and the Helo Hanger, have already been removed in this photo.
