First National Bank of Eden Robbed of $3000 in 1929

On Nov. 7, 1929, two men driving a Buick 1927 coach belonging to Wm. Coacher, drove up to the bank and gathered up all the funds in sight and made their escape. They went west out of Eden and took the cross country road leading up east of the old fort to Four Mile Lake. Here a confederate met them with a Ford and they abandoned the Buick just about five rods from the spot in which the Kidder bank robbers abandoned their car a short time ago.

The men entered the bank, ordered "Hands up!" and then ordered Lloyd Brandsrud, assistant cashier and Joe Sattler, a customer, to lie down on the floor. Mr. Sattler was a little slow in getting down on the floor and he was given a shove by one of the men. Mr. Skola, cashier, was handed a sack and ordered to place the funds of the bank in it. No shooting was done and no violence attempted.

The men entered Eden in the Aberdeen Buick, filled up with gas and "bawled out" the station attendant because he was not fast enough in serving them. Their plans were evidently well laid. The telephone office closes from 11:30 to 12:30 and the robbers were seen to pass the telephone office before they went to the bank, evidently to make sure the operator had left. However little time was lost after the robbery in getting the alarm on the wires and it was broadcast from Yankton a few minutes after 12 o'clock. From Eden to Four Mile Lake the men had to break trail in many places as that road is not traveled much. The Hansen boys of Six Mile Lake, were behind them all the way but were unable to keep close enough to them to see which way they went when they left the Buick at Four Mile. Harry Freeman saw the car drive in and the Ford drive out again but had heard nothing of the robbery and thought nothing of it. Taken from the Marshall County Journal.

The robbers were later caught and sentenced.
