When the townships were first organized Eden and Lake were one
township called Eden township. Luffman and Eden Park were two
small towns in the township both located on the eastern border
of the township. The townships were divided in 1917 and the north
part was named Lake township. The following information was taken
from a ledger (clerks record) Town of Eden, dated 1897, supplied
by Mrs. Adeline Sckerl Daker. The first record in the book dated
March, 1906 states the following officers were elected: Elias
Ewing, Supervisor for 3 yrs. ... 18 votes, Max Sckerl, town
clerk 1 yr. ... 20 votes, Math Unger, Treasurer 1 yr. ... 20
votes, C. Davis ... assessor 1 yr. 20 votes, M. Sckerl Justice
of the Peace ... 2 yrs. ... 19 votes, F. H. Fruck ... Constable
2 yrs. 18 votes, overseers of highways 1 yr. Dist 1 ... Ch.
Bates and Dist. 2 ... Lawson. Signed A. E. Sckerl, Dep. Clerk.
The board met in the school house at Eden Park and election judges
were paid $1.50. Different roads were mapped out at the meetings
and therefore section lines were declared public highways ...
four rods wide. One statement given was cash on hand Feb. 26,
1907 - $82.78. Received from liquor licenses $ 448.25 and from
County Treasurer for taxes - $ 218.00, making a total of $749.03.
Of this $504.78 was paid out leaving a balance of $244.25.

State of South Dakota held at the school house at Eden on the 3rd
day of Mar. 1908. Meeting called to order by the clerk, Max
Sckerl. Mr. F. C. Davis was chosen for Moderator. The Moderator
stated the business to be transacted. On motion it was resolved
to authorize the Supervisor to buy four wheel scrapers - to
deposit one dollar for borrowing a Slush Scraper and three
dollars for a wheel scraper for safe return. At five o'clock
the polls closed. 35 votes were cast in favor of liquor license
to be issued and seven against. End of Quote.
On June 28, 1908 two wheeled scrapers were purchased for $112.00
and $148.00 for culverts. Liquor license was issued to M. Koenig
for Eden Park and to Oscar Hagen in Luffman in 1908. The treasurer
was paid 3% of the money for handling the money and paying bills.
The poll tax was one day's road work. On June 12, 1912 the board
met in Luffman. Road overseer earned $2.00 per day. The book
shows all the warrants issued from Jan. 11, 1898 to Feb. 24,
1914.
