Trans-Atlantic Voyage:
On August 5, 1856, Cornelius Hengen arrived in New York
aboard the S.S. Clara.
He was with his wife,
Elisabeth Hundheim,
his children, Cornelius and B., and his brother Johann Hengen
and Gertrude Diech. The ship sailed from Antwerp, with Cyrus
Cooper as its master and weighed 822 tons.
Naturalization:
First Papers (1st): Supreme Court, Ramsey County, October 10, 1859.
Arrived in United States on or about August 1, 1856. Renounced
allegiance to the King of Prussia. His brother John also filed
first papers on that day.
First Papers (2nd): Douglas County District Court, June 7, 1871. Arrived in
United States on or about August 30, 1854. (According to his son Bart's
first papers - August 15th). Renounced allegiance to the King of Prussia.
Final Papers: Douglas County District Court, October 3, 1876. Renounced
allegiance to the King of Prussia. Witnessed by A. J. Ames and Fred
von Baumbach.
Land:
In 1886, "Kornelius Hengen" owned 140.91 acres in Leaf Valley township
(Section 6, Township 130 North, Range 38 West of the 5th Principal
Meridian). By 1912, this land was owned by Michael Pikulik.
