Henry Halbauer

from "Eden - The First 75 Years: 1914 - 1989"

I was born Aug. 8, 1915 on my folk's farm about three miles north of Eden, SD. I stayed on the farm until April, 1935 when I signed up for the C.C.C.S. for one year. I was sent to the Black Hills and worked in Custer State Park until I was discharged in April, 1936.

When I came back, I stayed on the farm most of the time until March, 1941 when I was drafted into the Army. I was stationed in the United States until December, 1943 when I was shipped overseas to England where I stayed until June, 1944. Shortly after D-Day, I was shipped to France. I was in France a few days when I was wounded in action and sent back to the hospital in England. In October, I was sent back to France, Belgium, and Germany where I served until October 1945 when I was sent back to the United States. I was discharged Nov. 12, 1945.

I returned to the farm and farmed until 1973 when I retired and moved to my present home. I have taken tours of Hawaii in 1977, the Caribbean Cruise (Dom. Rep. St. Thomas and Bahama) tour to the west coast, tour of Canada, Maine and eastern states in the Fall Foliage tour.
